Gila River Indian Community Rise Up Scholarship

Every eligible Gila River Indian Community member will receive a 20% tuition scholarship for certificate, undergraduate and graduate degree programs at ASU Online.

Reduced Remaining Student Responsibility

You'll pay your school for any remaining costs, like books and supplies, which financial aid may also cover.

Need-based aid includes grants like the Pell Grant or University Grant that are awarded based on the financial need of the student/family. Financial aid awarded based on demonstrated financial need from student’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Student responsibility may be met through personal savings, loans, etc.

How it Works

Request Information

Submit a request for information below. You will receive an email with a link to complete an Authorization to Release Information Form. After you return the completed form to the Tribal Enrollment Office, you will receive an eligibility confirmation email within 5 days. Once confirmed eligible to participate, an ASU Enrollment Coach will contact you within 7 business days.

Prepare & Submit Your Application

Whether you have a degree program or certificate you are interested in or aren’t sure what you want to study, you can get support from an ASU Enrollment Coach. The enrollment coach will guide you and answer your questions, explain scholarship details and help you apply to ASU Online.

Admittance & Course Enrollment

Once admitted, you can register for courses.

Scholarship Award

After you register for courses, your 20% Rise Up Scholarship will be awarded for your base tuition. Your scholarship will appear in the Finances section of My ASU.

Additional Financial Assistance

Members may apply to the Gila River Higher Education Program for additional tuition assistance. Reach out to the Tribal Education Department for more information at Jamelyn.Casoose@gric.nsn.us. Members are also highly encouraged to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®). If you have questions regarding your eligibility for the Rise Up Scholarship at ASU, email Jamelyn.Casoose@gric.nsn.us.

Frequently Asked Questions

Members of the Gila River Indian Community should submit a request for information and begin the application process. Members should also follow the approval process set out by the Tribal Education program to see if they are eligible for 100% tuition coverage.

Members who have been previously disqualified from participating in the GRIC Higher Education program are still eligible for the 20% scholarship for ASU online. Reach out to the Tribal Education team for more information or speak to an ASU enrollment coach.

Gila River community members must follow the approval process set out by the GRIC Higher Education Program to receive the scholarship. Complete the form below for more information.

Tuition varies based on program. To learn more, check out the ASU tuition calculator found at https://students.asu.edu/tuition. The Gila River Indian Community Rise Up scholarship will be applied directly to ASU charges.

After you register for courses, ASU will apply the Rise Up scholarship to your account automatically. The scholarship will post in the “Finances” section of My ASU once it has been processed. If you have further questions about your scholarship being applied, please contact the ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services at 1-855-278-5080.

To participate in the Rise Up Scholarship, submit a request for information. Once confirmed eligible to participate, you will be able to opt-in to the program.

For students enrolled in a traditional in-person degree program or certificate at Arizona State University, you will need to transition online if you wish to participate in the Rise Up Scholarship.
